12 things nobody tells you when you’re planning a wedding..

Planning a wedding is meant to be one of the most exciting times of your life (and don’t get us wrong, it is) but it also comes with a few unexpected twists. Between Pinterest-perfect dreams and the actual reality (hello, guest list politics and invoice shock), there are a few things nobody really prepares you for.

Here’s what brides really wish they knew before diving into planning, so you can feel one step ahead.

1. You’ll Second Guess Every Decision (Even the Dress)

Yes, even the dress you cried over. Once you buy it, Instagram’s algorithm will suddenly serve you 500 “better” options. Save everything to a folder, sleep on big decisions, and then stick to your gut. Trust: you chose it for a reason.

2. Wedding Guests… will have opinions

From menu choices to whether or not there's a plus-one, everyone seems to have a comment. Remember: this is your day, not a group project. Be polite, be clear, and move on. Bonus tip: wedding websites often save a LOT of replying to guests over the same things, cover dress codes, timings, local places to stay & local phone numbers.

3. The Budget Will Stretch (and Stretch)

That £20k budget? It can easily balloon if you’re not tracking everything. Flowers, signage, postage, extra chairs—it adds up fast. Create a real budget tracker (we’ve made one for you—download it here) and leave room for surprises.

4. You Might Not Care About Things You Thought You Would

Dreamt of a firework display? You might find yourself prioritising a luxe photographer instead or extra food during the afterparty. Your values will shift during planning, and that’s okay because the best part is that none of your guests knew your original plans.

5. The Pressure to Please Everyone Can Be Overwhelming

Parents, in-laws, friends.. it can feel like you’re planning 5 different weddings at once. Set boundaries early and don’t apologise for making choices that suit you as a couple.

6. DIY Is Rarely Cheaper (Or Easier)

Sure, those TikTok brides made it look easy. But crafting 100 favours or printing your own invites? Time-consuming and often more expensive. Know where to invest and where to outsource.

7. Someone Might Let You Down

A no-show RSVP, a late bridesmaid, or a vendor mishap..it happens. It doesn’t define your day. Expect little hiccups, and focus on the big picture: you’re marrying your person and the people that truly matter will be there to celebrate with you.

8. You’ll Start Comparing—A Lot

Instagram and Pinterest will make you feel like your wedding isn’t “enough.” Unfollow, unplug, and remember that a beautiful wedding is one where you feel joy, not just where everything is perfectly styled.

9. You’ll Probably Forget to Eat

Between nerves, makeup touch-ups and nonstop chatting, eating often gets missed. Nominate someone to hand you a canapé. You deserve it and it will help the champagne head the next day.

10. The Day Will Fly Faster Than You Can Imagine

Everyone says it, and it’s true. Take quiet moments throughout the day to pause, breathe, and soak it in together because you will never get that feeling back.. bonus points if you take a selfie to look back on together.

A Final Note: You’re Doing Amazing

No matter how organised or chaotic things feel right now, your wedding will be uniquely yours. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be unforgettable, you don’t have to feature on Pinterest and no matter what happens, it will be a day to celebrate your love which is all that matters… And better still we’ll be here to guide you every step of the way 💍
